Project Description

Another very exciting project for MilktechNZ®. The first for the Karamea area with a recent installation for Greg and Amy Kees who are based on the South Island west coast. Here they milk 430 cows once a day through a 30 bail internal rotary on 210 effective hectares. Greg and Amy have just purchased the family farm and also bought the neighbouring property in June 2022. So it’s been a very busy time for them!
The milking machine had vacuum operated cup removers which were 20 years old. This was a driving factor to upgrade to the MilktechNZ® CR-1 electronic cup removers. Karamea is quite remote with only one road in and out of the area, so reliability was one of the key factors in their decision to go with MilktechNZ® CR-1’s. Greg also installed the MilktechNZ® leg spreaders to help with the cupping process.
Greg said, “The multi-coloured user interface, is a great way of letting the operator know what the particular set of cups are doing during their operation, especially in an internal rotary. The ability to easily change our milking parameter settings on my phone during milking through the season to suit how we want to milk our cows is a real benefit. I liked the look of the MilktechNZ®’s YD-1 yield display which can be easily upgraded to the CR-1’s and see the valued benefits of this for our operation in the future. I also liked that MilktechNZ® is a New Zealand based company with the equipment being designed for New Zealand farmers and made in New Zealand.”
Greg said, “Mark at MilktechNZ® listened to what I was after, was very easy to deal with, not to pushy. Also with the timing of purchasing the farm and wanting new cup removers, MilktechNZ® worked on a payment plan that worked for us. They had a simple contract. Mark was very accessible for any questions we had and also kept us updated with the delivery and start of the installation.”
The installation was carried out in the second week of July and took only three days. Greg could see the way the MilktechNZ® products and brackets have be designed which made the process very simple. “It looks like they has been always in there”, Greg said.
Greg was impressed that the installation was very tidy, with great focus on attention to detail and completed in a timely manner.
When away from the farm Greg and Amy love spending time with their four year old son Arlo with the occasional fishing/hunting trip.
From the team at MilktechNZ® we would like to say a BIG thankyou to the Kees family and congratulations on the purchase of the farm!
